On Saturday, the arena league team had a quick trip up the M5 to Bridgwater for the 2nd round of the Arena League. The team put in some great swims, with lots of cheering and support for their fellow team mates. Well done to all the swimmers, especially those that had to swim up an age group and events that they don’t normally do. It was a hard fought gala with Paignton finishing in 2nd place – fantastic result!

2021 Intercounties Waterpolo Tournament – Silver Medallists.
Three of our u13 Waterpolo players, Owen McInally, Ava Siegle and Curtis Norris showed off their skills, stamina and determination this weekend when making their first appearance for Devon in the 2021 Swim England South West Inter County Championships, at Millfield School.
In a fast paced, exciting tournament they helped the Devon side take the first match, against Somerset, with a convincing score of 21-4, with goals for Owen (in Q2) and Curtis (in Q3).
The game against Gloucester was always going to prove more challenging, but after the first quarter, with some hard pressing and ruthless attacking by the Devon team, the score was tied at 4 – 4, it seemed that the team had a real chance to overcome their opponents. However, despite battling hard, the more experienced Gloucester side began to pull ahead in the second quarter, a pattern that the Devon side, despite working hard, was unable to reverse. When the final whistle blew the score was 16-7 to Gloucester.
This left Devon finishing in the silver medal position on the day.
Well done to all the Devon team and especially to the Paignton players, all of whom worked really hard and were a credit to Paignton.
After a 2 year break due to Covid, Paignton swimmers have retained the Trophy after a close battle with Brixham.
Last Saturday, 19 swimmers travelled down to the Life Centre in Plymouth to represent Paignton in the first round of the Arena League. Facing tough competition from Premier Division club, Plymouth Leander and fellow first division clubs, Brixham, Dawlish, Devonport and Newton Abbot, every swimmer put in a great performance. With fantastic team spirit spurring them on, there were numerous Personal Best times and gutsy swims, particularly from some of the girls swimming up one or two age groups. The fun and lively afternoon resulted in a close 2nd place finish for Paignton out of the first division clubs! Bring on round 2 in November!
