South West Regional Age Group Championships 2019

Five swimmers from Paignton competed over two weekends at Hengrove and Millfield. Nathan Apps, Alice and Isobel Brown, Finn Hadley and Harriette Lewcock all produced excellent swims, with numerous long course PBs between them. Harriette qualified for the finals in the 13 years 100 back and 50 backstroke, achieving further PBs and coming 4th and 5th in each. A great achievement in a level 1 competition. Well done to all our swimmers.

 

South West Regional Championships 2019

Seven Paignton swimmers qualified to compete in the South West Regional Championships at Plymouth Life Centre over the Bank holiday weekend.  Adam Reed, Ed Brown, Harry Joiner, Amy Best, Jess Bickley and first time qualifiers Callum Hodge and Alex Worth all produced excellent swims with numerous long course PB’s. A great achievement – well done swimmers!

Next it’s the turn of our Age Group qualifiers; Finn Hadley, Nathan Apps, Isobel Brown, Alice Brown and Harriette Lewcock who will be competing over the next couple of weekends at Hengrove and Millfield. Wishing them all the very best – photos and report to follow !

 

Paignton regain the William Shield

Paignton swimmers had a busy week kicking off with the William Shield on Wednesday night. Again it was a hard fought gala against the local clubs of Newton Abbot, Brixham and Torquay Leander with both Paignton and Newton Abbot fielding B teams. Some fast swimming from both Paignton’s A and B teams resulted in Paignton winning back the Shield from Newton Abbot by 8 points! Fantastic result – well done to all the swimmers. A huge thank you to all the poolside helpers and officials.

Land Training

First session of land training for the Performance Squad was a great success! The swimmers enjoyed themselves, encouraging one another throughout the exercises.  A big thank you to the Leisure Centre and Paul the instructor, for the use of their brilliant facilities.  Huge thank you to Kal and Lev for overseeing the session.  Excited to see next week’s session!

Interclub Gala 2019

Ten Devon teams battled against each other at the Plymouth Life Centre on Sunday for the annual Interclub Gala.  For the second year in a row Paignton Swimming Club achieved an outstanding position to come 3rdbehind Plymouth Leander and the winners Exeter City Swimming Club.  All of the teams’ hard training paid off with fantastic results against the two big swimming clubs.  It was great to see the Paignton team spirit out in force again cheering loudly throughout the gala.  Well done team – very proud!

Devon Relays 2019

A huge contingency of swimmers competed in the Devon Relay gala on Saturday with some age g­­­roups entering three relay teams.  For some of the younger swimmers it was their first experience of swimming in a 50m pool.  Head Coach Kev said “this was a great opportunity for our younger swimmers to show the development they have made and their potential to be strong squad swimmers going forward – they rose to the challenge and put in some fantastic swims”.  A massive thank you to all the team managers for organising a successful event; Emma Ashford, Kev Hadley, Emily Hadley, Nicky Hawkins and Jane Bickley.

Devon County Championships – 1500m

The final event in the Devon County Championships was the long course 1500m, held on Saturday February 23rd at Plymouth Life Centre. Nicole Cook and Alice Brown made history,  as the first two female Paignton swimmers to compete at this distance at county level, taking part in the U13 girls age group, with Junior Captain Harry Joiner swimming in the U15 boys. All 3 were rewarded with medals: silver for Alice, bronze for Nicole and a bronze for Harry, to accompany a Championship medal. Well done to all for stepping up to the challenge of this tough event.
