Two Counties Open Meet

25 Paignton swimmers entered the Two Counties open meet hosted in Plymouth by Dinnaton and Caradon Swimming clubs over the weekend of 14th/15th April. This is the second year this event has run and it is proving to be an exceptionally well organised and friendly meet. The inclusion of “hot heats” added an extra element of competition. Well done to Alex Worth and Luca Hailey, who both won heats and collected prizes.

The medley skins event also provided much excitement. Jake Adderley qualified for the 16 and under boys’ skins event and in the 14 and under category, Paignton were extremely well represented with Sam Alden, Ed Brown and Jordan Hughes all making it through. All 4 came home with prize money, with Ed eventually winning the boys’ 14 and under event.

Every single swimmer swam at least one PB, many achieved regional times and the team returned with a huge stash of medals to boot. Well done to all.

Strong Swims at Long Course Meets

Sam Alden, Luca Hailey, Finn and Flo Hadley made the trip to Hengrove for the Level 1 National Qualifier meet in March.  Sam swam over half a second PB in the 50 butterfly, Finn swam three events achieving a big PB in the 50 freestyle, Flo swam a solid 50 breaststroke finishing in 5th place and Luca swam 2 events gaining a PB in his 50 backstroke.
Paignton then moved onto the TYR Invitational Graded Levels 1 and 3 meet at Millfield over the long Easter weekend.  Jake Adderley, Sam Alden, Amy Best, Finn Hadley, Harry Joiner, Megan Kendall and Joe Northstone all took part in various Level 1 events, all having good, solid swims.  Jake made the 50 breaststroke final and came home a respectable 6th place.  Amy and Joe both achieved PBs in the 50 fly. This was Joe’s first long course meet and he also competed in the 200IM and 200 butterfly, both hard events, and swam very well.
Sam, Amy, Finn and Megan also took part in the Level 3 event,  winning 6 medals between them.  Megan took nearly a second off her PB to win gold in the 50 backstroke.  She also placed 4th in the 200 freestyle.  Sam took bronze in the 100 breaststroke with a 2 second PB, silver in the 50 breaststroke with over 1.5 second PB, bronze in the 100 butterfly and 4th in the 100 freestyle.  Finn took silver in the 100 butterfly and Amy won her 100 freestlye “hot heat”, sponsored by TYR, with a 3 second PB that also secured a bronze medal.
A long 3 day event – well done all.
